Origins of the Lyman-Brule Genealogical Society

Founded in 1987, our society is open to anyone interested in geneaology and we will conduct a research for those asking.  Newsletters are published quarterly and membership is always encouraged.  We meet the third Monday of every month at 12 noon at Cozard Memorial Library in Chamberlain.

About The Photo

The Old Highway 16 Bridge across the Missouri, pictured above, is a very fitting photo for our club because it links Brule and Lyman Counties together; Brule on the left, Lyman on the right.

Mission

Our mission is to gather and preserve genealogical data of the Lyman-Brule County area in order to help anyone and everyone in their quest for researching their family history.  We will also do genealogical research for anyone requesting us to do so.  See our rate chart.

Projects

  • Publication of “Of Rails and Trails, A Centennial Journey 1889-1989″; our 406-page book that covers the business, social, and family histories of Lyman, Brule, and Buffalo counties.
  • Compilation of cemetery data (by walking through the cemetaries)
  • indexing any genealogical books or records we can get our hands on
  • extracting genealogical data from local newspapers
  • creating notebooks of complete obituaries & marriage notices

NEVER TOSS OUT GRANDMA’S “DUMB JUNK”!
We will gladly accept any history or photos of Lyman and/or Brule County from anyone willing to share what they have. To submit a photo, scan at 640 resolutions and send as an attachment to an email  or we can scan for you and return the photos/documents.
